Syfy has given a straight-to-series order for Chucky, a new series about the villain from the Child’s Play film franchise.
The series has been in development for the past year and the network announced the show has been greenlit while at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.
The new Chucky series “will explore the horror that unfolds in a small idyllic American town after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale and the chaos the ensues when as a series of murders exposes the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the slayings as well as the doll’s untold origins,” according to THR.
Hocus Pocus‘ David Kirschner and The Act‘s Nick Antosca are executive producing the series.
A Child’s Play big-screen remake was released last year and grossed $44 million worldwide.
