Shortly after he announced that Beth had lost her battle with cancer, the 66-year-old reality star – whose real name is Duane Chapman – and two of his daughters spoke with the media waiting outside of his house on Wednesday (June 26) in Honolulu, Hawaii.
“It’s terrible, the most terrible time in someone’s life,” Duane shared with Hawaii News Now. “You kind of try to remember that you’re celebrating life, but right now we’re mourning the death, so it’s not good.”
Duane then opened up about the emotional day – and revealed that Beth‘s final words were about making sure her family would be okay.
“When she had an attack I didn’t know anything to do but to say ‘in Jesus’ name’ and hold her and when I said ‘in Jesus’ name’ she said, ‘Say it again, say it more,’” Duane tearfully shared. “And then she told the girls and everybody, with her mouth — she came out of it a couple times — ‘I love you’ and ‘Are you guys all okay? Don’t worry,’ but she never accepted it.”
Duane continued: “I loved her so much. “As Lazarus lay, Jesus said he’s not dead, he’s sleepeth. My final words are Beth isn’t dead, she’s sleeping.”
Beth was first diagnosed with stage 2 throat cancer in 2017, and was cancer free for months but it returned in November of 2018.
Our thoughts are with the Chapman family during this time.
