The two actors will lead the all British cast in the show directed by Oscar-winning Steve McQueen, according to Variety.
The series, which has been years in the making, will be set in London’s West Indian community, running from the late 1960s and to the early ’80s. It will be comprised of six parts and tell five different stories.
“I felt these stories needed to be shared. I wanted to relive, reevaluate and investigate the journeys that my parents and the first generation of West Indians went on to deliver me here today calling myself a black British person. What’s important about our stories is that they are local but at the same time global,” Steve said in a statement.
Production is currently underway on location in London.
