Rob Lowe Says He Turned Down Playing McDreamy on 'Grey's Anatomy'

Rob Lowe made a big reveal on a recent episode of “WTF With Marc Maron” – he was originally offered the role of McDreamy – aka Dr. Derek Shepherd – on Grey’s Anatomy.

“Dude, I turned down Grey’s Anatomy … to play McDreamy,” Rob said on the podcast. “That probably cost me $70 million dollars! But at the end of the day, I watched it when it came out, and when they started calling the handsome doctor ‘McDreamy,’ I said, ‘Yeah, that’s not for me.’”

The role was, of course, played by Patrick Dempsey for 10 seasons from 2005 to 2015.
