Lena Dunham underwent a major surgery to relieve herself of pain.
The 31-year-old Girls actress revealed in an essay for the March 2018 issue for Vogue that she had a full hysterectomy – removing her cervix and uterus – in order to relieve herself of endometriosis pain.
Lena has been outspoken about her struggle with the painful condition, and had already undergone “years of complex surgeries measuring in the double digits.” She decided to remove her reproductive organs to end the pain once and for all.
She remains determined to have children: “I may have felt choiceless before, but I know I have choices now,” she wrote about planning for motherhood.
“Soon I’ll start exploring whether my ovaries, which remain someplace inside me in that vast cavern of organs and scar tissue, have eggs. Adoption is a thrilling truth I’ll pursue with all my might.”
